The Williams Field Black Hawks missed an extra point against the Higley Knights on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Williams Field and Higley were almost perfectly matched up, but Williams Field suffered an agonizing 36-35 defeat. Williams Field's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the team, making it four in a row.
Despite the loss, Williams Field still got an impressive performance from Dylan Lee, who rushed for 417 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry. Lee's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards.
Higley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Daxen Hall out in front who rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 85 receiving yards. Hall has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Fagrell, who threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.8% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Higley's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Jonathan Shively was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Williams Field has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Higley, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williams Field will take on Boulder Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Boulder Creek will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for Higley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ironwood Ridge will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Higley is ranked 12th).
