EL MONTE, Calif. -
Arroyo (El Monte, Calif.) bested South El Monte (Calif.) 42-0 while riding the arm of
Nathan Coto, who tossed five touchdown passes.
The lead that the Knights took on a Coto touchdown pass to
David Cotero with 10:00 remaining in the first quarter stood up for the duration of the game, as neither team managed to score in the second half.
Arroyo put up 28 points in the second quarter en route to the win. AHS scored on a touchdown pass by Coto to
Jose Valdivia, a Coto touchdown pass to
Gabriel Gomez, a
Randy Amezcua touchdown run and a touchdown pass by Coto to
Nico Lozano in the quarter.
Arroyo's standout player in the win was Coto. The senior quarterback threw five touchdowns. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
The Knights came into the game allowing 13.0 points per game. South El Monte's zero points were well below their season average of 21.3 per game.
Arroyo got revenge for last year's 13-7 loss to South El Monte with the victory.
The loss was the third in a row for SEM.
In a Mission Valley game next week Arroyo (8-1) takes on Rosemead, and South El Monte (2-7) will go up against Mountain View also in a Mission Valley game.
