After having lost a blowout in their previous game against White House-Heritage, Kirkwood was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. Everything went their way against the West Creek Coyote as the Kirkwood Cobras made off with a 21-3 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cobras needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Gus Smith made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Kirkwood got a massive performance out of Mathew Dirks, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Peyton Deloach was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.
Kirkwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Creek only posted an OBP of .462.
The victory got Kirkwood back to even at 1-1. As for West Creek, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kirkwood will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Clarksville Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 18th. As for West Creek, they will face off against Jo Byrns at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
