Sumner extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 6-9. They lost 11-1 to Dexter. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Dexter this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 two weeks ago.
Sumner saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carleton Dow, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Jameson Kramer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
As for Dexter, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games.
On Dexter's side, Brady Gaw made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gaw has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Noah Kain and Chase Lander did most of the damage at the plate: Kain got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Lander went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Lander a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kody Kimball, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sumner will challenge Bangor Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots' pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Dexter, they will take on Orono at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
