After a string of four wins, the Eastlake Titans's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 69-55 bruising from Victory Christian Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Victory Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Derek Edmond, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Edmond has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times he's played. Chato Garcia was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Eastlake's loss dropped their record down to 15-10. As for Victory Christian Academy, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastlake will square off against the Mariners at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mar Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 730th, while the Titans are ranked 324th). As for Victory Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to take on the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Olympian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matchups -- so hopefully the Knights like a good challenge.
