The Grassfield Grizzlies came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 49-42 win over Hickory. Given Grassfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Hickory is ranked 241st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Grassfield to victory were Khadijah Rashid and Amaya Fisher. Rashid dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Fisher scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rashid has scored all season. Kameron Dyes was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds.
Grassfield's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. As for Hickory, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-13.
Grassfield will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Nansemond River at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Grassfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday. As for Hickory, they will head out on the road to face off against Kellam at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
