Given Fike's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while East Wake is ranked 495th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Smithfield-Selma's defeat was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Fike, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.
