After flying high against the Northwood Temple Academy Eagles last Tuesday, the Wayne Country Day Chargers came back down to earth. Wayne Country Day fell to Trinity Christian 57-51. Wayne Country Day was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Trinity Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2022.
Wayne Country Day's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Vanderhorst, who scored 18 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Vanderhorst scored a full 35.3% of Wayne Country Day's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyrah Davis, who scored 15 points along with 6 assists.
Denaira Williams was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with 7 steals and 6 assists for Trinity Christian. The contest was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Goode, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Wayne Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Trinity Christian, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Wayne Country Day will head out on the road to face off against Fayetteville Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Trinity Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Berean Baptist Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
