The Schuylerville Horses will face off against the Queensbury Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Schuylerville has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Queensbury will arrive with seven straight victories.
Schuylerville's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Broadalbin-Perth hitters got past them. The Horses fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 11-10 on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Horses have lost by just one run.
Alex Renner was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Morris, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Queensbury earned a 7-2 win over Amsterdam on Monday.
Davian Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lucas Rolleston, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Luke Mootz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Queensbury's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Schuylerville, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6-1.
Schuylerville came out on top in a nail-biter against Queensbury in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Horses repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
