The St. Charles East Fighting Saints will be taking part in a tournament against the Huntley Red Raiders at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Charles East 4.1, Huntley 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
St. Charles East is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since April 15th on Friday. They skirted past Wheaton-Warrenville South 5-3. The game was the first time the Fighting Saints have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 9, 2022.
Lexi Majkszak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addison Wolf, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Morgan Beers was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Huntley waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Knights a 5-0 shutout. Give the Red Raiders' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Huntley also got a great performance from Layla Olson as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Olson a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Avery Collatz was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Bayness, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Huntley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
Huntley pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for St. Charles East, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 12-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. St. Charles East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Huntley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Charles East might still be hurting after the 12-2 defeat they got from Huntley when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Fighting Saints have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
