The Christian Academy Warriors were the 64-59 winner over the Evansville Christian Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Christian Academy fell just short of Evansville Christian by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while Evansville Christian is ranked 22nd).
When it comes to explaining why Christian Academy lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Joshua Renfro. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 3 assists. That was a full 54% of Christian Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. David Cook was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Evansville Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Josiah Dunham, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Davis, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Christian Academy's loss ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-3. As for Evansville Christian, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.
Christian Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Henryville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. As for Evansville Christian, they will head out on the road to square off against Wood Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evansville Christian is coming into the contest with seven straight victories on the road, so Wood Memorial is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
