Jefferson has gone 8-2 against Musselman recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars will be playing in front of their home fans against the Applemen at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Jefferson's favor as the squad sits on 17 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Musselman has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
Jefferson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Hedgesville, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Jefferson was ranked first). The Cougars never let the Eagles get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Monday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Sam Hefner was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Serf Guerra was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Musselman not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2024 (when they won 15-0). They put the hurt on Greenbrier East with a sharp 13-3 win. The Applemen haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Musselman got a massive performance out of Taryn Boyles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Boyles has become a key player for the Applemen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tannor Sharp, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Musselman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Musselman's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Jefferson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season.
Jefferson was able to grind out a solid victory over Musselman when the teams last played back in March, winning 5-1. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Applemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
