Softball Game Preview: Dwyer Panthers vs. Park Vista Cobras

The Dwyer Panthers will square off against the Park Vista Cobras at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Dwyer: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Park Vista has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Dwyer barely beat Dr. Joaquin Garcia the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Dwyer's pitchers stepped up to hand Dr. Joaquin Garcia a 14-0 shutout on Monday. That looming 14-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Panthers yet this season.

Dwyer got a massive performance out of Lily Lynch, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Lynch a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Pratt, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Park Vista beat Stoneman Douglas 3-0 on Monday.

Angeline Mergen made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Hannah Durante was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Mya Rosa also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Park Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Dwyer's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Park Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 11-1.
