On Saturday, the Benet Academy Redwings faced the Thornton Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Benet Academy took a 63-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Thornton. It was the first time this season that Benet Academy let down their fans at home.
Thornton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Morez Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Johnson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Isaiah Green was another key contributor, scoring 26 points along with two steals.
Benet Academy's loss ended a 16-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3. As for Thornton, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benet Academy will square off against Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Thornton, they will head out on the road to face off against Bloom at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloom will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 26th, while Thornton is ranked second).
