The Springville Red Devils will take on the Provo Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Springville has three straight victories, Provo has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Springville will bounce into Friday's game after beating Spanish Fork, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. The Red Devils walked away with a 3-1 win over the Dons on Thursday.
Springville was especially dominant in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20.
Meanwhile, Provo didn't have quite enough to beat Payson on Tuesday and fell 3-2.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Provo sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11.
Springville will have to contain Taylor Liechty as he made an impact in Provo's last game. He had 12 digs and three aces. Kai Jo was another key player, getting 16 assists and four digs.
Provo's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Springville, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's match: Springville has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Provo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
