On Friday, Maricopa took a serious blow against Mountain View, falling 42-14. Maricopa was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.
Although Maricopa took the loss, they still got scores from Khaleb Johnson and Diego Diaz.
Mountain View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Justin Holguin out in front who rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Holguin's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Horrocks, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Maricopa's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.3 points per game. As for Mountain View, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.
Maricopa will look to defend their home field on Friday against Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. Ironwood Ridge is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last six games. As for Mountain View, they will head out on the road to face off against Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tucson High Magnet School will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
