The Atlee Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 63-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mechanicsville. While losing is never fun, Atlee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Mechanicsville is ranked 123rd).
Mechanicsville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kate Carlton led the charge by scoring 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Carlton also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Owens, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Atlee's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Mechanicsville, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Atlee will be playing in front of their home fans against Freeman at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Freeman is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Mechanicsville, they will head out on the road to challenge Armstrong at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Armstrong will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
