Southern Maryland 3A/2A recap October 8, 2013
Lackey was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Northern. The Chargers came in at 24 in the state poll after placing at number 41 last week.
Patuxent extended the longest winning streak in Southern Maryland 3A/2A this week by beating McDonough, 28-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Stone's dynamic duo of Keiron Morsell and Marquis Bundy proved tough for Calvert to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Morsell threw for 27 yards and 1 touchdown and Bundy had 25 yards receiving.
Tyler Crounse provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Patuxent topped the Rams. He completed 3 passes for 14 yards and also ran for 137 yards.
The Patriots' Taylor Wagner and Adam Swann have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wagner has thrown for 657 yards this season, while Swann has 22 catches for 361 yards. Crounse from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 748 yards.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Northern and the Cougars face off next week.
An important game coming up in Southern Maryland 3A/2A this week will be when Stone takes on the Patriots. The Cougars are in third place, while Northern is in fourth place.
The Patriots fell to Lackey 31-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Austin Howard was a bright spot for Northern, as he ran for 135 yards in the defeat.
