Football Recap: Desoto Central Skates Past Lewisburg with Ease

The home team had won the previous three meetings between DeSoto Central and Lewisburg, and DeSoto Central kept the tradition alive. The Jaguars took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-14 victory over the Patriots. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-0.

Eric Perry was his usual excellent self, rushing for 200 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries, while also throwing for 88 yards and one TD. His longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards. Another player making a difference was Cade Rodgers, who gained 150 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: DeSoto Central was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 397 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Another reason for the win was DeSoto Central's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Landon Caradine was especially locked on to Lewisburg's QB and sacked him twice. Caradine is becoming a predictor of DeSoto Central's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

Although Lewisburg took the loss, they still got scores from Levi Presley and Kaysen Wiggins.

DeSoto Central pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.5 points over those games. As for Lewisburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
