Delphi Community is 2-8 against Winamac since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Oracles will welcome the Warriors at 10:00 a.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Delphi Community took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Pioneer, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Oracles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Panthers on Thursday, sneaking past 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Oracles have posted since May 1, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Kylynn Spitznagle, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allie Huffman, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Delphi Community lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Winamac had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Kings 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted against the Kings since May 25, 2017.
Adrianna Hall spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Lauren Bruce was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
Winamac pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Delphi Community, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Delphi Community's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. The Oracles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Winamac, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Delphi Community continue to outrun the ball?
Delphi Community might still be hurting after the 16-5 loss they got from Winamac in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Oracles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
