The Northeast Jones Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Greene County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Northeast Jones is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
While Northeast Jones' victory against Mendenhall wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Northeast Jones won by a run and slipped past Mendenhall 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Northeast Jones has posted since April 15, 2024.

Caroline Myrick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Hannah Harrison was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Starr Dorsey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greene County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Poplarville on Thursday.
Like Northeast Jones, Greene County also got a great game from a two-way player: Addie Tungett. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Tungett was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Greene County got a big performance out of Kambrie Lawrence, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Erin Meadows was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Greene County's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Northeast Jones, their record now sits at 17-3-1.
Both Northeast Jones and Greene County just can't seem to miss. The Tigers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Greene County struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northeast Jones came up short against Greene County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
