The River Valley Dust Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 57-38 bruising from Salome. The result was an unpleasant reminder to River Valley of the 68-32 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
River Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dominic Leal, who scored eight points. Leal is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Daniel Sesma was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Salome's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jibran Castillo led the charge by scoring 20 points. Castillo has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jovany Calderon, who scored 15 points.
River Valley's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Salome, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.
River Valley will head out on the road to face off against Parker at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Parker's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Salome, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Lincoln Prep at 5:30 p.m. Salome is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.
