The Nicholas County Grizzlies fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Midland Trail Patriots on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 61-52 to the Patriots. Nicholas County's defeat continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it five in a row.
Several Grizzlies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isaiah Miner, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Miner is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Collins, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Midland Trail to victory, but perhaps none more so than Eli Campbell, who scored 22 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Jaden Gladwell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Nicholas County has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Midland Trail, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-2.
Nicholas County will head out on the road to take on PikeView at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. PikeView knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Nicholas County likes a good challenge. As for Midland Trail, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Greater Beckley Christian at 7:30 p.m. Midland Trail is coming into the matchup with eight straight victories at home, meaning Greater Beckley Christian will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
