Softball Recap: Aztec Sets Scoring Season-High Against Shiprock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Aztec). Everything went their way against the Shiprock Chieftains on Thursday as they made off with a 23-6 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

Cami Lucio was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Kamora Henry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Aztec kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in nine consecutive games.

Aztec is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Shiprock, they dropped their record down to 6-13 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Aztec will take on rival Bloomfield at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Shiprock is set to challenge their familiar foe Kirtland Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
