Softball Recap: Liberty Has No Trouble Against Sherman

Liberty hadn't done well against Sherman recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Raiders put the hurt on the Tide with a sharp 7-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Maddie Cox's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Allie Bowles and Katie Mullens did most of the damage at the plate: Bowles went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Mullens went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Alyssa Scarbro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sherman, they moved to 8-4 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 17-2 victory against Margaretta on the 18th. As for Sherman, they have also already played their next contest, an 11-4 defeat against Scott on the 18th.
