The Sierra Vista Mountain Lions will head out on the road to challenge the Green Valley Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sierra Vista has three straight victories, Green Valley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Sierra Vista ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Cimarron-Memorial 69-67. Sierra Vista's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Sierra Vista found their leader in underclassman Taylor Lane, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lane has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chyann Felker, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Green Valley ended up a good deal behind Cimarron-Memorial on Wednesday and lost 56-39. Green Valley has not had much luck with Cimarron-Memorial recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Sierra Vista is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Green Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-16.
Sierra Vista was able to grind out a solid victory over Green Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 43-35. Will Sierra Vista repeat their success, or does Green Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
