The Mercy School Institute Mustangs suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were beaten by Immanuel Lutheran Christian Academy 77-35. Mercy School Institute was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-20.
Despite the loss, Mercy School Institute still got an impressive performance from Hannan Ashraf, who scored 16 points. Ashraf is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ibrafal Diakhate, who scored four points along with three blocks.
It was another big night for Sheen Saunders Jr, who scored 31 points along with seven rebounds for Immanuel Lutheran Christian Academy. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Saunders Jr has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bonfils Kabwe, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Mercy School Institute's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Immanuel Lutheran Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercy School Institute's road trip will continue as they head out to face Cristo Rey at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Cristo Rey is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Immanuel Lutheran Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
