Baseball Recap: Auburn Gets the Win

Auburn barely beat Oxford the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Rockets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Pirates an 11-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Rockets have won 12 matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Kyle McLaughlin, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Matthew Friedland, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Auburn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Auburn's win bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Oxford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Auburn will face off against Shrewsbury at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colonials' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Oxford, they will take on Bartlett at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
