3A/2A Waccamaw recap Sept. 26, 2012
West Bladen's Malique McDowell rumbled for the longest rushing play in 3A/2A Waccamaw this season in his game against South Brunswick last week. McDowell's team fell to the Cougars as he sprinted for 73 yards on the play and finished with 87 in all.
West Brunswick moved up to 135 from 203 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Trojans were able to make the jump by beating North Brunswick 49-26.
West Bladen's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Colby Lewis threw for 66 yards and Malcolm Vaught had 49 yards receiving. On the ground Deandre Long chipped in 91 yards. Nijeal Williams helped West Bladen's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
West Bladen's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Knights feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Zack Wilcox has thrown for 546 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Vaught has 29 catches for 279 yards. Long leads the league in rushing with 562 yards.
A big matchup in 3A/2A Waccamaw this week will be when South Brunswick takes on South Columbus. At the moment, Roman Kelley's team is in sixth, while the Stallions are in first.
South Columbus took down West Columbus 53-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
