The Bertrand Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Bertrand focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Bertrand ended up a good deal behind Overton and lost 62-48.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jc Kehr, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thunder Nelson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Maywood/Hayes Center came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 61-54 victory over Sandhills/Thedford.
Maywood/Hayes Center's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Haydn Farr led the charge by scoring 22 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Ingison, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Bertrand's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Bertrand have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Maywood/Hayes Center, though, as they've been averaging only 5.4 threes per game. Given Bertrand's sizeable advantage in that area, Maywood/Hayes Center will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bertrand came out on top in a nail-biter against Maywood/Hayes Center in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, sneaking past 57-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bertrand since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
