The Central Bronchos''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 56-6 defeat at the hands of Velma-Alma. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central in their matchups with Velma-Alma: they've now lost four in a row.
Leading Velma-Alma to victory were Slade Strickland and Kaiden Lyle. Strickland threw for 54 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, while Lyle rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Lyle was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards.
Central's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Shattuck (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.9% over those games). As for Velma-Alma, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.
Central will head out on the road to face off against Wilson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Velma-Alma, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Alex at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alex will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Velma-Alma is ranked seventh).
