Alamo Heights pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Burbank by a score of 65-63. Alamo Heights has struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Alamo Heights had strong showings from Sophia Zadel, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, and Talaiyah Andrews, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Andrews has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Megan Hawkins was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Highlands has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They enjoyed a cozy 49-30 win over Jefferson last Friday.
Andrea Garza and Zoe Barron were among the main playmakers for Highlands as the former scored 14 points and the latter scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Garza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Jackson, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds.
Alamo Heights' loss dropped their record down to 23-8. As for Highlands, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-25.
Everything came up roses for Alamo Heights against the Owls in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 57-30 win. With Alamo Heights ahead 29-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
