Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wonderview). They were the clear victors by a 20-5 margin over the Guy-Perkins Thunderbirds on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Daredevils as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Gavin Sponer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Sponer was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Wonderview: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Nate Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those RBI were his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Clint Wilson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Wonderview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Wonderview's victory bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Guy-Perkins, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Looking ahead, Wonderview will head out to take on Sacred Heart at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Guy-Perkins, they will take on Mt. Vernon-Enola at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
