The Switzerland County Pacers will head out on the road to take on the Milan Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Switzerland County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Switzerland County managed to slip by North Decatur the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Pacers came up short against the Chargers on Saturday, falling 18-8.
Zayne Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent over his last six matches. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Peyton Turner was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Brian Jones, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milan). They blew past Shawe Memorial 24-3 on Saturday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 6, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Seth Thomas looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Cole Burton and Noah Morgan did most of the damage at the plate: Burton went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Morgan went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Morgan has become a key player for Milan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Wyatt Marsh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Milan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Milan's record now sits at 8-6. As for Switzerland County, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Everything went Switzerland County's way against Milan in their previous meeting back in April, as Switzerland County made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pacers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
