Big 8 recap October 29, 2013
Cassville extended the longest winning streak in Big 8 this week by beating Mt. Vernon, 35-14. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Seneca took down East Newton 44-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Braxton Graham ran for 190 yards and caught 1 pass for 53 yards during the win.
Steven Stroud made the biggest impact on defense this week as Carl Junction topped Monett. The 5-foot-7 senior forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Dustin Satterlee provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Bulldogs beat the Cubs. He completed 16 passes for 213 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 62 yards. Satterlee's key target this week was Tanner McMurtry, who caught 7 passes for 125 yards.
Payton Rawlins threw for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Graham was the best running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 190 yards as the Indians bested Monett. Teammate Lance Hymer added to the ground attack by rushing for 28 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Rawlins and Graham, Seneca has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Rawlins is tops in the league in passing with 1,859 yards, while Graham has rushed for 1,634 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Doug Buckmaster's team's Matt Magee, with 738 yards on 48 catches.
Going into this week's game against Republic, the Bulldogs' Satterlee needs 193 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season. So far this year, Satterlee has thrown for 1,807 yards with 17 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Chad Depee's team takes on Aurora. As it stands, the Cubs are in fourth, while the Houn Dawgs are in sixth.
Cassville made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,087 from 4,374. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 35-14 victory over the Mountaineers last week.
