The Northfield Norsemen will challenge the Peru Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northfield has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Northfield came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Rochester, falling 18-7.
Korbin Haupert was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jaden Baer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Peru). They blew past Southwood 26-3 on Monday. The victory was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won three matches in a row.
Kouper Burks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryce Hill was incredible, going 5-for-6 with one home run, five runs, and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Peru: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gavin Eldridge, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Peru always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.
Peru's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Northfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Northfield suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Peru in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Norsemen have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
