The Moses Lake Mavericks are taking a road trip to take on the Mount Si Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moses Lake had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Cheney on Monday. The Mavericks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Blackhawks a 10-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Mavericks, who have now won three contests in a row.
Paige Richardson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Reffett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Mya Martinez also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Moses Lake hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Mount Si entered their tilt with Hazen on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They put the hurt on the Highlanders with a sharp 26-0 win.
Like Moses Lake, Mount Si also got a great game from a two-way player: Paige Yost. Throwing, Yost pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Clara Connor kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Yost went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, while Connor got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Ally Hetzel was incredible, firing off two home runs, ten RBI, and four runs while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Braukus, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Moses Lake's record now sits at 8-3. As for Mount Si, their record is now 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Moses Lake has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mount Si struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Moses Lake came out on top in a nail-biter against Mount Si in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
