The Eureka Hornets will challenge the Prairie Central Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eureka is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Eureka didn't have quite enough to beat Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn and fell 9-8. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
John Martin led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Schieler, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Prairie Central made easy work of Bloomington Central Catholic on Monday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Saints recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Tony Schahrer made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had over his last four games. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Easton Friedman was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Will Skala was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Prairie Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Eureka now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Prairie Central, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Eureka got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Prairie Central by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
