Scott County Central left little doubt it would be competing for the championship of the Oran Tournament, following the first period of a semifinal game against Cooter Thursday. Central outscored the Wildcats 50-8 over the course of the first eight minutes and went on to post a 111-64 semifinal win.
Drew Thomas and Bobby Hatchett led the way for the Braves with 24 and 20 points respectively. D.D. Gillespie and Caleb Johnson added 17 points a piece in the 47-point win. Aaron McCaig led the way for the Wildcats with 17 points. Charles Copeland and Jonathan Boone added 13 and 11 points respectively for Cooter.
The Braves, who led 72-24 at halftime and 93-47 going into the fourth period, fell to Bell City 75-72 in the championship game.
Ball Hawks
Maplewood-Richmond Heights battered St. John's pride in a 100-21 win at the Valley Park Invitational Basketball Tournament in Valley Park last weekend. But that wasn't all they stole.
The Blue Devils racked up 28 steals in the 79-point triumph. Maplewood's brand of thievery led to many points during the tournament run. The Blue Devils scored 259 points in three tournament games and went on to win the championship with an 80-72 win over Trinity.
Bryant Allen led the way for Maplewood by securing eight steals against St. John and scoring 22 points and dishing out seven assists. Allen put up 31 points in the eight-point championship game win.
Balanced Unity
Christian Brothers had five players average double figures during its run to the championship game of the Pattonville Basketball Tournament last weekend.
Kerrington Pettiford led the way for the Cadets with a three game total of 35 points. Earnest Carter and Cory McArthy chipped in 33 and 32 points, respectively, throughout the tournament. Ryan Pierson and Kevin Walsh added 31 points a piece.
Despite the balance, Christian Brothers could do no better than second place after falling to Jennings 57-47 in the championship game.
Sultan of Swat
Brian McGee was on the defensive during Jennings' run through the Pattonville Basketball Tournament last weekend.
McGee recorded 21 blocks over the course of three games for Jennings, including a 10-block performance in a 65-36 win over the hosts. The Warriors won the championship with a 57-47 triumph over Christian Brothers.
Boys Basketball Top Tournament Performances
Shaquilla Boga scored 26 points for McCluer in a 60-51 win over Hazelwood West.Jennings' Tristen Bradford scored 33 points in a 77-57 win over Chaminade.Marcus Gilbert put up 34 points for DuBourg in a 76-63 win over Affton.Maplewood's Bryant Allen scored 31 points in an 80-72 win over Trinity. Girls Basketball Top Tournament Performances
Sarah Corbitt scored 14 points and recorded eight steals, four assists and nine rebounds for Principia in a 58-25 win over Cleveland.Kirkwood's DeVonna Smith scored 24 points and was credited for 13 rebounds, three steals and three assists in a 60-55 loss to Lindbergh. Smith also scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 52-36 loss to Nerinx Hall.Aimee Ubriaco tallied 11 points and dished out 10 assists for Lindbergh in a 60-55 win over Kirkwood.New Haven's Kathleen Scheer scored 27 points and recorded 17 rebounds and three blocked shots in a 44-41 loss to Clopton. Scheer also scored 26 points in a 40-36 win over Fulton.Shelby Winkelmann scored 27 points and was credited for four steals, four assists and three blocked shots for Hermann in a 66-41 win over Mexico.Orchard Farms' Alison Walls tallied 21 points and was credited with three steals and five assists in a 52-35 loss to Westminster.
