Softball Recap: St. Louis Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gladwin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Louis). They blew past the Gladwin Flying G 21-13 on Tuesday. Considering the Sharks have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Paige Luneack made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Halle Hoyt and Ellie Katt did most of the damage at the plate: Hoyt got on base in four of her six plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Katt went 5-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those five runs gave Hoyt a new career-high. Tekoha Henry was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.

St. Louis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .488. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gladwin only posted a batting average of .308.

St. Louis is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Gladwin, they dropped their record down to 7-14 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Louis will challenge Carson City-Crystal at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gladwin, they will face off against Standish-Sterling at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
