Union Grove Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Scotland Christian Academy. Considering the Patriots have won ten matches by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Morgan Donovant made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.

In other batting news, Maddy McDaniel was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Faith Hege was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Wilson Christian Academy's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Rocky Mount Academy on Thursday. The Chargers came out on top against Calvary Christian by a score of 7-2.
Like Union Grove Christian, Wilson Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Stevie Cressionnie. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Cressionnie was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie McBryde, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Another player making a difference was Allie Miller, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Wilson Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian only posted a batting average of .192.
Wilson Christian Academy's victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Union Grove Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Union Grove Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .500. However, it's not like Wilson Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .517. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Union Grove Christian couldn't quite get it done against Wilson Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
