Dunellen and Calvary Christian are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Dunellen Destroyers will head out on the road to square off against the Calvary Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, Dunellen was able to grind out a solid win over South Amboy, taking the game 63-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Dunellen.
Dunellen found their leader in underclassman Vibert Reynolds, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Jamael Davis, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian came tearing into Monday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Piscataway Vo-Tech 55-36. Given Calvary Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Piscataway Vo-Tech is ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The win got Dunellen back to even at 7-7. As for Calvary Christian, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Dunellen came up short against Calvary Christian in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 58-50. Can Dunellen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
