Basketball Game Preview: Godby Cougars vs. Ribault Trojans

The Godby Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Ribault Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Godby's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.

Two weeks ago, Godby was able to grind out a solid win over Madison County, taking the game 62-55. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Cowboys are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Godby's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kenijah Clayton led the charge by going 7 for 15 on her way to 19 points and three steals. Clayton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Lewis, who posted 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals.

Godby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 15 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ribault, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They put the hurt on Spruce Creek with a sharp 70-49 victory on Thursday. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Ribault has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Godby, their record now sits at 8-3.

Godby lost to Ribault on the road by a decisive 57-43 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Godby avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
