The Flagstaff Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Flagstaff sitting on eight straight wins and Salpointe Catholic on five.
Flagstaff is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Wednesday. They came out on top against Saguaro by a score of 6-3.
Will Carpenter and Christian Welker did most of the damage at the plate: Carpenter went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI, while Welker went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over Ironwood Ridge on Wednesday, taking the game 8-5.
Salpointe Catholic let Johnny Abramian and Aciel Guillen run wild. Abramian went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Guillen went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Abramian has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Colton Raetzman, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Salpointe Catholic's win was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-4-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Flagstaff, their record is now 22-9.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Flagstaff hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Salpointe Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .369. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Flagstaff came out on top in a nail-biter against Salpointe Catholic in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
