The Northwest Rankin Cougars pushed their score all the way to 58 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 62-58 to Starkville, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Northwest Rankin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
It was another big night for Zariyah Edwards, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds for Starkville. Tootie Lockett was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Northwest Rankin's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Starkville, their win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Northwest Rankin won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Clinton at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. As for Starkville, they will head out on the road to face off against Germantown at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Germantown is ranked 30th, while Starkville is ranked 11th).
