Independence is 5-0 against Smyrna since September of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Independence Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Smyrna Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Independence, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 32-17 loss to Summit. Independence has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Although Independence took the loss, they still got scores from Luke Mcneilly and Clay Davis.
Meanwhile, Smyrna had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They walked away with a 33-21 victory over Cane Ridge.
Smyrna relied on the efforts of Austin Morris, who threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and Thomas Jones, who gained 131 total yards and three touchdowns. Jones' longest reception was for an incredible 78 yards.
Summit's victory bumped their season record to 4-6 while Independence's defeat dropped theirs to 5-5.
Independence strolled past Smyrna in their previous meeting back in November of 2019 by a score of 28-10. Does Independence have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smyrna turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
