Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The John Paul II Golden Warrriors, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 30-21 to Florence Christian on Friday. John Paul II just can't catch a break and has now endured four defeats in a row.
Florence Christian was led to victory by Gavin Holt and Juels I huntley. Holt rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown, while I huntley rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. I huntley hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for nine straight games.
John Paul II's loss was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 2-10. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.3 points per game. As for Florence Christian, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
John Paul II does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Florence Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilson Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Wilson Hall's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
