North Stokes is 2-8 against East Wilkes since November of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The North Stokes Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the East Wilkes Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with North Stokes sitting on four straight victories and East Wilkes on 14.
Even though North Stokes has not done well against Mount Airy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. North Stokes walked away with a 44-37 victory over Mount Airy. Given North Stokes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Mount Airy is ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, East Wilkes put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Alleghany 60-27 at home.
North Stokes' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.1 points per game. East Wilkes' record now sits at 17-4.
North Stokes ended up a good deal behind East Wilkes in their previous meeting back in January, losing 60-42. Can North Stokes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
