The Campbell Sabers will square off against the Pearl City Chargers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Campbell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Campbell had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Waipahu on Wednesday. Everything went Campbell's way against Waipahu as Campbell made off with a 16-5 victory. The Sabers have beaten the Marauders the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Marauders has come to flipping the script.
Isaac Lemos made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Campbell got a massive performance out of Jayden Pacariem, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base was Pacariem's first of the season. Jonah Yacap was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Campbell hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waipahu struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Pearl City didn't have quite enough to beat 'Aiea on Thursday and fell 9-8.
Logan Honma and Ian Wicklund did some serious damage despite the final result: Honma scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Wicklund went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The dominant performance gave Honma a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayson Au Hoy, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
The win got Campbell back to even at 2-2. As for Pearl City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2-2.
Pearl City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Campbell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. It's a different story for Pearl City, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Campbell's hitters?
Campbell came up short against Pearl City in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can Campbell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
