2A District 8 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Northlake Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 2A District 8. Earlier in the week, the Wolverines triumphed over Pine 23-19.
Northlake Christian and the Raiders played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Northlake Christian eventually emerging with a 23-19 victory. Josh O'Rear threw for 156 yards and one touchdown and ran for 72 yards in the win.
Tony Agresta's team's O'Rear and Dane Landry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. O'Rear has thrown for 689 yards this season, while Landry, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 18 catches for 357 yards. Springfield's Gharmaine Ashton leads the league in rushing yards with 654.
A big matchup in 2A District 8 this week will be when Pine takes on Aquinas. Bradley Seal's team is currently in second, while the Falcons are in fourth.
Aquinas led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on St. Helena Central.
